U.S. Patriot Corps Mississippi Detachment Holds First Drill

TUPELO, MS — The United States Patriot Corps Mississippi Detachment held its first drill on 7 DEC 2021 at Veterans Park located at 800 North Veterans Blvd in Tupelo, Mississippi. Captain Robert Minteer, Commander of the Patriot Corps Mississippi Detachment held muster and swore in new recruits, afterward they held a tribute to December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy". That is the date that the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the United States Naval base at Pearl Harbor and was the reason for the United States entering WWII. Captain Robert Minteer said "This was the right date and the right place to start the Patriot Corps Mississippi Detachment. We have a lot of work ahead of us in 2022, we will be posting our yearly drill schedule up next week and look forward to achieving our goals." Military Service Improves Social Security Rate

If you were in the military before 2002 you can get an additional $1200 a year, ($100 per month) in Social Security. But you have to ask for it and almost no one knows about it. So we here at the United States Patriot Corps are doing our part to spread the word. Below is the info straight from the Social Security Administration.

Special Extra Earnings for Military Service

From 1957 through 2001, if you had military service earnings for active duty (including active duty for training), you may have extra Social Security wage credits added to your earnings record. These extra earnings credits may help you qualify for Social Security or increase the amount of your Social Security benefit.

How You Get Credit For Special Extra Earnings

Special extra earnings credits are granted for periods of active duty or active duty for training. Here's how the special extra earnings are credited on your record:

From 1957 through 1977, you are credited with $300 in additional earnings for each calendar quarter in which you received active duty basic pay.
From 1978 through 2001, for every $300 in active duty basic pay, you are credited with an additional $100 in earnings up to a maximum of $1,200 a year.

In January 2002, Public Law 107-117, the Defense Appropriations Act, stopped the special extra earnings that have been credited to military service personnel.

If you enlisted after September 7, 1980, and didn't complete at least 24 months of active duty or your full tour, you may not be able to receive the additional earnings.

This new headquarters location will bring new training, schools, logistical and administrative support to the USPC. South Carolina, is one of the most Patriot-friendly states in America. The United States Patriot Corps chose the Chester County, South Carolina location for its rural areas which is needed for training in Search and Rescue, Aviation, Drone, and Force Protection. 20th Anniversary of 9/11

This year is the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. We remember the shock and sorrow of that day and also the dedication, commitment, and strength of all those who responded to the tragic events. The 9/11 terrorist attacks forever changed not only the United States but the world. It is paramount, now more than ever, to remember that on a day when outside forces worked to tear our country apart, we rose together as one nation. Now is the time for us to reflect and pay tribute. Some are too young to remember that tragic day, some had not even been born yet, and some remember it all too vividly. September 11, 2001 is still fresh in many of our minds, and it is now up to us to pass along our own stories, our own memories. To remind us all what it was like the day America was shaken to its core.

We must never forget those who died in horror on that day.
We must never forget the first responders who put their own lives on the line, many of whom would go on to battle horrible illnesses linked to their time spent at Ground Zero.
We must never forget those, who in the coming months and years would fight bravely because their country asked them to, many of whom paid the ultimate price.
We must keep in our thoughts the families and friends of the deceased who are still grieving to this day.

Memorial Day 2021

The United States Patriot Corps takes great pride in recognizing those that gave their lives defending these United States of America so all Americans can be free. These men and women gave the ultimate sacrifice and let us all remember them on this upcoming Memorial Day.

Here is a little history, Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and commemorates all men and women who have died in military service for the United States. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day and it is traditionally seen as the start of the summer season.

A Soldier's Silent Night

A Soldiers Silent Night by Father Ted Berndt

Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone.

In a one-bedroom house made of plaster and stone.

I had come down the chimney, with presents to give

and to see just who in this dwelling did live.

As I looked all around, a strange sight to see,

no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.

No stocking on the mantle, just boots filled with sand.

On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands.

Medals and badges, awards of every kind,

a sobering thought came alive in my mind.

This house was different, it was dark, it was dreary.

I had found the home of a soldier, I could see that most clearly.

The soldier lay sleeping silent, alone.

Curled up on the floor in his one-bedroom home.

His face was so gentle, room in such disorder,

Not at all how I pictured a U.S. soldier.

Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read?

Curled up on a poncho, a floor for a bed?

Then I realized the other families that I saw this night

Out there lies the soldiers who are willing to fight.

In the morning around the world, children would play

Grown-ups would celebrate a bright Christmas day

But they all enjoyed freedom, each month through the year,

because of soldiers like the one lying here.

I couldn’t help but wonder how many lay alone,

on a cold Christmas Eve, in lands far from home.

The very thought brought a tear to my eye.

and I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.

The soldier awakened, I heard his rough voice,

“Santa, don’t cry, this life is my choice

I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more.

My life is my God, my country, my Corps.”

The soldier rolled over, and drifted to sleep,

I couldn’t control it, and I continued to weep.

I kept watch for hours, so silent and still.

as both of us shivered from the cold night’s chill.

I didn’t want to leave him on that cold, dark night.

This guardian of honor, so willing to fight.

Then the soldier rolled over with a voice soft and pure.

He whispered, “Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all secure.”

One look at my watch and I knew he was right,

Merry Christmas my friend,

May God bless you this night.
